Ricky Brooks’ Recovery Story

From hip replacement to back on the job in less than three weeks

When I found out that I needed hip replacement surgery, there were two things that were most important to me: getting back to home to my family quickly and getting back to work. I work full-time for Appalachian Power and at the time I wasn’t sure how the surgery would affect my ability to do my job.

I really didn’t know what to expect. I knew there were choices of where to recover, but after speaking to family and friends it quickly became clear that Springtree Health and Rehabilitation Center was a perfect fit for me. It was convenient to my home, had an amazing new therapy gym with the LifeWorks Rehab Program, and just felt right. But the people were what really made the difference — everyone I met there just went out of their way to make you feel welcome and right at home. They truly care for you and are interested in how you’re doing every day.

When I got to Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center after my surgery, I was amazed how quickly my recovery progressed. Only a week after I started my LifeWorks Rehab program I was able to walk unassisted without a walker. I couldn’t believe how fast they were able to get me up and moving again! I worked hard, too, and the LifeWorks Rehab therapists were working right along with me. I was in the gym 6 days a week and sometimes even more.

I was determined to do the best I could and my LifeWorks Rehab therapists were just as determined as I was. They were great people to have on my team and they kept pushing hard to make sure I’d be able to reach all of my goals. I was there at Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center for 19 days, and the recovery I made in that amount of time was nothing short of amazing. I feel like I got the greatest rehabilitation that I could have gotten anywhere. When I got back home I was strong and healthy enough to get back to work fast and do all of the things I needed to do. I still work every day and my job is very active and I feel great!
